I've only been on a weekday afternoon when this place is a very pleasant oasis. They have a good choice of ales, including some from Nethergate, on the Essex/Suffolk border, which is pretty rare to find in London. The beer is served in pewter tankards, which is either great showmanship or a little twee. I'm inclined towards the former.
I believe it is more of a foodie place in the evenings, and I imagine it fills up with suits pretty quickly.
It has been renovated by the people behind the Malmaison hotels, and very tastefully so; according to the reviews the few rooms upstairs are pretty swanky.
Works for me.
